Doctors’ Day is celebrated in India every year on July 1st. The day honors renowned physician Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy, whose birth and death anniversary fall on this day. Dr Roy served as the second Chief Minister of West Bengal. The Government of India instituted the observance of Doctors Day in the year 1991. This day is celebrated to show our gratitude to all the doctors who selflessly serve us in our time of need and work tirelessly for the health of their patients.
This year, Doctors’ Day is of particular significance considering the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Healthcare professionals have been at the forefront of the fight against this viral disease. The theme of this year’s Doctors’ Day is ‘Lessen the mortality of COVID-19’ and includes awareness about asymptomatic hypoxia and early aggressive therapy. Dr Rajan Sharma, National President, IMA, has said that this Doctors’ Day is dedicated to the doctors rendering their services during this epidemic in the primary and secondary care setups as well as the dedicated COVID care hospitals… (HT; Express Healthcare)
